Main Group

TemariChallenge | Main / Temari Challenge For Everyone
Beginners through advanced temari stitchers are invited to join us! Welcome to our forum for exploring the techniques and designs of the ancient folk art of Japanese temari. We are a group of experienced temari stitchers who freely exchange ideas and help answer questions that go beyond the basics of temari. We thrive on the exchange of thoughts and experience in the development of temari designs. The goal of this group is to explore the ancient craft of temari as an art form while respecting and honoring the traditions of the past. TemariChallenge is moderated by six members of the Japan Temari Association. We live all over the world and bring diverse perspectives to the craft. Please join us as we try to unravel the secrets of the Japanese masters. No, not their temari, just their techniques!  Ancora imparo ("I am still learning") -----Michelangelo Group guidelines can be found in the files section.

  • TemariChallenge | QinghaiWave / Qinghai Waves
Resource: Cosmo 1 (Yasashii Temari) Easy Temari, pp 32 & 72 Facilitated by Judy Tepley Skill Level: beginner Stitches: Herringbone and descending herringbone Techniques: Interwoven and interlocked I hope you will enjoy what this design has to teach. It was a bit of a stretch using the Descending herringbone at first. I can now say that it is an essential tool in my kit. It has made it possible for me to work on designs I couldn't before. I've posted all the steps as some folks work faster than others. Please ask any questions along the way. I think the photos show all essential details and the text as well.  I like the new skills that our groups io has to share. Everyone can challenge at first, no matter what experience you bring to the table. Just nudge yourself along, new is always good!
